发言题目:华兹华斯诗歌和他的旅行、观景与沉思
摘要:华兹华斯一生钟爱旅行,他将强烈的情感与平静中的回忆紧密地联系在一起,这仿佛昭示着他心灵和精神的宁谧与崇高。但这却并不意味着他的生命只存在于宁静的沉思之中,相反,诗人的沉思往往来自于他的旅行,以及旅行中的观看。旅行与观景将他带入与自然和人的交往,也给他对人性和生命的反思。虽然他曾经抵制那作为霸道的感官的眼睛,但旅行带给他的观看使他能够透过眼睛的观看洞见更为本质的生命存在。

Title: Wordsworth’s Poetry and His Travels, Viewing and Meditation
Abstract: Wordsworth loves traveling throughout his life. He connected the powerful feelings and the memory recollected in tranquility together, which suggests the spiritual serenity and sublimity of his true heart. Yet it does not mean that he only involves his life in the peaceful meditation. On the contrary, his meditation always comes from his travels as well as the seeing in the travels. His traveling and sightseeing bring him the communication with the people and the nature, which inspires his reflection on the humanity and life of things. Though he put forward the ideas of resisting against the “despotism of the eye”, the traveling may always bring him the insight of the essence of life through seeing with the eye and his “inward eye”.

发言题目:华兹华斯兄妹的风景书写、弗朗西斯·汤恩与中国古代山水画
摘要:主要围绕华兹华斯的《湖区指南》与多萝西的旅行日记,考察华兹华斯兄妹的风景书写及相互影响。适当结合英国十八世纪风景画家弗朗西斯·汤恩的湖区作品,并探讨在中英文化交流背景下,中国山水画和园林思想对英国景观塑造(包括书写与美术)的可能影响。

Title: William and Dorothy Wordsworth’s Landscape Writing, Francis Towne and Classical Chinese Landscape Painting
Abstract: The paper focuses on Wordsworth’s Guide to the Lakes and Dorothy Wordsworth’s travel journals, compares their landscape writings, and explores their mutual influence. It looks at Francis Towne’s Lake District watercolours as one of the settings for the Wordsworths’ landscape writings. Considering the great cultural exchanges between Britain and China in the 19th century, the paper also attempts to see if classical Chinese landscape paintings and gardens have any influence on shaping the English landscape (both in writing and in the fine arts).

发言题目:《迈克尔》:一首牧歌?
摘要 《迈克尔》的副标题“一首牧歌”一直困扰着华兹华斯学界。在梳理西方《迈克尔》批评史基础之上,本文认为,《迈克尔》并非传统意义上的牧歌,也非农耕美德的赞歌,亦非哀悼北方小自耕农消亡的挽歌——而是一首追问生死、丧失,以及存在之终极意义的哲学牧歌。作为超然的牧者-诗人,华兹华斯以其独特的美学策略将悲苦的原始素材和严峻的社会问题熔铸为审美沉思的对象,进而将《迈克尔》提升到“万物一体”的哲学-美学境界之中。华兹华斯伟大诗歌给予读者的“疗治功能”即在于此。

Title: Michael: a Pastoral?
Abstract: The question of Michael’s subtitle “a pastoral poem” has been puzzling western Wordsworth scholars for ages. Based upon a critical survey of Michael studies, this paper argues that Michael is neither a georgic in the traditional generic sense, nor a panegyric on English agrarian virtues, nor an elegy lamenting on the disappearing of the English northern statesmen, but a philosophical pastoral about death, loss, and metaphysical recompense. To be brief, Wordsworth is an emotionally detached shepherd-poet who, with his unique aesthetic strategies, manages to organize reality-references of human suffering he witnessed into aesthetic and philosophical meditations, which, accordingly, afford the weeping reader “consolation of a cosmic unity”, hence, the great “healing power” of Wordsworth’s poetry.

发言题目:于故乡中流放——《安家格拉斯米尔》中的悖论
摘要:《安家格拉斯米尔》中隐藏了“归家”的悖论:诗人在阔别湖区多年、先后旅居伦敦、欧洲、萨默塞特后,选择位于湖区中心的格拉斯米尔小村庄定居,看起来似乎终于回归熟悉的家乡,并借此找回温暖,但萦绕在诗中的,始终是不确定的基调与反复确定的口吻。本文借助萨义德、布罗斯基等当代作家的论述,探索《安家格拉斯米尔》中“流放于故乡”的悖论,论述华兹华斯借助安家的隐喻,表述了写作的治愈力量,以及对自己与文学传统背离的渴望与焦虑,探索了自我、写作与安家的和解过程。

Title: Exile at Home: Anxiety and Aspiration in Wordsworth’s ‘Home at Grasmere’
Abstract: This paper provides a detailed reading of William Wordsworth’s ‘Home at Grasmere’ (1814), revealing the ambivalence of the writing act and negotiating the paradox in the poet’s ‘homecoming’. After London, Europe and Summerset, the poet returned to the Lake District, only to find himself estranged from the supposed ‘hometown’. A sense of unsettledness and uncertainty runs through the poem. By drawing from current critical thoughts on writing and the condition of exile, this paper reflects on Wordsworth’s self-banishments from his literary heritage to contextualise the hard-fought reconciliation between writing, self and home with which the poem ends.

发言题目:华兹华斯“变节”再考
摘要:以他对法国革命态度转变为主要说辞的诸种华兹华斯“ 变节” 说深刻影响了两百余年的华兹华斯批评实践。但深入考察表明,华兹华斯并没有因为“ 害怕革命暴力” 而反对法 国革命本身,正是秉持“ 自由” 原则让他发生了从支持法国革命到反对拿破仑征服战争的态度转变。同样,他在1818 年威斯特摩兰郡选举中支持朗斯代尔家族候选人、反对1829 年《天主教解放法案》、反对1832 年《改革法案》等事件都是他信守早年“ 原则” 的力证,而非所谓“ 变节” 或“ 保守” 的证据。

Title: A Reexamination of Wordsworth’s “Apostasy”
Abstract: The various charges of “apostasy” against Wordsworth, of his changing attitudes towards the French Revolution in particular, have profoundly impacted the Wordsworth criticism for more than two centuries. However, an in-depth reexamination reveals that Wordsworth did not oppose to the French Revolution per se for “fear of violence”. It is his adherence to the principle of “Liberty” that has caused his attitudes shifting from supporting the French Revolution to opposing the Napoleonic wars of conquest. Similarly, his support of the Lansdale candidates in the 1818 Westmorland election, his disapproval of the 1829 Catholic Emancipation Act, and his opposition to the 1832 Reform Act, were all cases of his sticking to “principles” held in early years, rather than proofs of his alleged “apostasy” or “conservatism”.

发言题目:牧羊杖·书·轻奢品:消费革命语境下华兹华斯与亚当·斯密的伦理对话
摘要:华兹华斯对亚当·斯密的评论可分为两类:一是针对其文学品味,二是针对其经济思想。本文将这二人的隔空对话置于18世纪后半叶19世纪上半叶的商业经济背景,尤其是当时发生的“消费革命”当中,认为这场隔空对话究其本质是一场伦理对话。亚当·斯密追崇的文风对应轻奢品的特质,体现出替商业文明背书的消费伦理;而这恰好是华兹华斯所批判的,他推崇的文风是一剂药方,对应牧羊杖的特质,体现湖区田园简朴的精神崇高。经济思想上,华兹华斯抨击商业经济尤其是劳动分工导致的异化,这一点上亚当·斯密有类似的焦虑,且二人提出的解决方式也类似:以书为代表的教育。但表象类似之下还是延续了之前的本质差异,亚当·斯密提倡的读书目的是商业文明的教养,华兹华斯的读书目的是精神上的自由。综合看来,对于华兹华斯而言,牧羊杖与书结合才可能导向愿景;而亚当·斯密后期则不可避免地对商业文明尤其是其带来的巨大财富产生了伦理怀疑。

Title: Shepherd’s Crook, Book, and New Luxury: the Ethical Dialogue between William Wordsworth and Adam Smith in the Context of Consumer Revolution
Abstract: William Wordsworth’s comments on Adam Smith fall into two categories: one is on his literary taste, the other is on his economic thoughts. If these comments be put in the context of the commercialization, especially the consumer revolution happened in the two writers’ time, it could be perceived that they are actually ethical concerns. Adam’s literary taste corresponds to the new luxury that got its vogue during the consumer revolution. So Adam’s taste is an expression of commercial civilization and consumerism, which are exactly what Wordsworth criticizes. Wordsworth’s ungarnished style, which could be compared to “shepherd’s crook”, is a cure to the ethical problems caused by commercialization and consumerism. As for the economic thoughts, both Wordsworth and Smith worry about the alienation caused by division of labor, and both of them regard reading as one solution. But beneath the surface, the two display the same difference in their literary taste: Wordsworth’s reading focuses on building soul, on spiritual freedom, while Adam’s reading leads to commercial civilization. On the whole, for Wordsworth it’s necessary to integrate shepherd’s crook and book. And for Smith it’s almost inevitable that in his later life he would worry about the ethical decadence caused by commercialization.

发言题目:大地的诗人与日常的真理——从《隐士》探讨华兹华斯的“现代哲理诗”理念
摘要:华兹华斯倾其毕生试图完成第一首现代哲理诗《隐士》,但在体系哲学的阐释框架下,《隐士》系列诗歌被认为缺乏哲学的洞见。本文认为,华兹华斯的“现代哲理诗”试图突破体系哲学的权威,他不通过一位“哲化诗人”的口吻传达高深的真理,而借助“大地诗人”老商贩向众人传达“日常的真理”。华兹华斯预感到现代性可能给身心带来的割裂,他的“现代哲理诗”试图以“普通人”唤醒“普通人”健全的心灵,使之既不被理性幻象所惑,亦不被感性洪流裹挟,以健硕的心智和柔软的同情思索和应对哲学的永恒主题——死亡与悲苦。

Title: The Excursive Poet and the Commonplace Truths: Wordsworth’s Idealization of the Modern Philosophical Poem The Recluse
Abstract: The first modern philosophical poem The Recluse was the project that William Wordsworth contrived to complete throughout his life, which, however, was criticized as lacking in “real philosophy” within the interpretive framework of systemic metaphysics. This paper argues that Wordsworth’s modern philosophical poem defies the authority of systemic philosophy in that it does not use a “philosophic poet” to convey recondite truth, instead, it transmits the commonplace truth in the voice of an old peddler—the poet of “excursive power”. With the hunch that modernity will create a most probable schism between the human mind and feeling, Wordsworth’s modern philosophical poem attempts to awaken people’s soul through a soul among the people. Such a soul, neither misled by the absolute reason nor deluded by prevalent sentimentalism, owes its power to a strong mind and a tender sympathetic feeling and acts as a transcendent power against death and suffering, which is the permanent theme for philosophy.
