Carbon Neutrality, as a critical part of global efforts to address the current climate crisis, is one of the strategies for sustainable development. During the 75th United Nations General Assembly in September 2020, China made a formal commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. There is an increasing focus on the conservation and restoration of the three major blue carbon ecosystems: mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes. These blue carbon ecosystems are up to 90 times more efficient at carbon sequestration capacity than forests. In this context, carbon trading, especially blue carbon trading, is considered to be a key focus of carbon emissions trading, serving as an important way to realize the value transformation of blue carbon ecological resources. Since the value of blue carbon ecological products is still being explored, we plan to convene the "2024 International Workshop on Blue Carbon Ecosystems" in Xiamen, Fujian, on January 24th 2024, to enhance scientific research exchange and cooperation in this field and to keep pace with international progress.
